Thank you for visiting my site. I've been a school teacher for over twenty years and I'd long considered taking up a hobby. Other than golf, and a bit of writing, I couldn't really find anything that piqued my interest or fulfilled my need for creativity. I remember the day I told my wife that I thought I wanted to become a candlemaker. She responded (with love), "well, why don't you make one first, and make sure you like it." She's wise like that. In January of '22, I made my first candle and indeed I did like it. So, here we are. Persimmon Ridge Farmhouse Candle Co. was born.

How did I arrive at the name? As I generated over 200 possible names, trees were a noticable theme. I love persimmon pudding and "ridge" seemed a better alliterative fit than "hill" or "creek." Some of my most vivid boyhood memories were formed and deeply ingrained when our family lived on a farm not far from Turkey Run State Park. So it just seemed right. Consequently, my mom recently told me that the tree that my dad is buried next to is a persimmon. And, that tree, sits upon a ridge overlooking a farmhouse and land in southern Indiana. Coincidence?

I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and want to make the highest quality candle I can. It might be disingenuous to say that my candles are made with love, but I can say, I love making candles. I usually make three at a time, but never more than six. My process is laborious and inefficient, but in my mind and heart I'm not making a candle, I'm making a gift.
When you communicate or do business with PRFCC, you are communicating and doing business with me. I hope you always sense that there is an actual person here hoping to make your experience great. I'm striving at this end to earn your candle business for life.
Finally, I've discovered that lighting a candle reminds me to slow down my heart rate and "mind rate," to breathe purposefully, make use of my God-given five senses to notice, really notice, the world around me, to allow my noticing to grow into marveling, marveling to gratitude, and gratitude to praise. It brings me great delight and purpose to imagine that one of my candles might do the same for you.

Most sincerely,
Randy
